I can see it now: you've been working hard on perfecting your beats over the years and now the people around you are telling you how dope your production is. Suddenly a light bulb goes off in your head and you say to yourself "maybe I should try to see if I can sell my beats somehow".
Not a bad idea my friend you came to the right place because in this post i'm going to be sharing with you the pros and cons of selling your beats online!
1. Become your own BOSS
If you want to stay stuck in that 9 to 5 life style for the rest of your life, if you don't want to steer your own ship or control your own destiny than that's okay, and maybe this post isin't for you. All I know is that for myself and a lot of people who hate answering to the man, selling beats online is an AMAZING way to gain control of your future as a music producer.
2. Stop Exchanging Time For Money
The biggest problem I have with a 9 to 5 is exchanging my time for money. That's funny as if i'm not worth more than $10 an hour, tell them to forget it. I would much rather create a product that can continue to create residual income for me over time as I grow.
3. The Old Ways Of Getting Placements Are Dead
The days of music producers getting placements the old way are dead. You don't have to move to LA or Atlanta or New York and spend ridiculous amounts of money just to finally get on an artists project to finally find out its not coming out for another 2 years. Oh and guess what, half of the time your not getting paid because an artist wants the beat for free "off the strength" so in other words your not getting paid til after the record label recoups on the back end. What a joke so you make a beat and instead of getting paid upfront now you have to wait to MAYBE see any money, does that even make sense? Music producers take back your control!
4. The Music Industry Is Evolving!
Its funny how I hear everyday about an artist who found his chart topping single from an online music producer's beat store or on YouTube. More and more artists are looking towards the internet everyday and its the way things are evolving towards and you cant fight it! Don't get lost in the crowd of music producers who never get a shot because there not putting themselves out there.
