So I was just thinking recently and I guess it bothered me enough to make a blog post about it, but I cant seem to move past the fact that Music Producers in the world today are so under valued and should be appreciated more. Sometimes I don't fully understand how it got to this point (or just don't want to accept it) but I do just want to take this moment to remind everybody, producer or not, who we are and what we do:
1. We make the world turn
Without music how would we live our day to day lives? Good questions, we wouldn't or at least it would be much different. Picture watching a movie and just nothing but awkward silence in between scenes or no music to carry out the emotional aspects of a film. Picture going to the club or the bar without music carrying the vibe. That's just two of many many more but you get my point, what would life be like without music in our everyday lives? If you asked me I would say pretty bland and boring. So every time you go out or stay in or whatever and enjoy anything music related you can thank a music producer for taking time and composing that masterpiece.
2. Artists Need Producers, Producers Do Not Need Artists
Lets set this straight now, producers appreciate artists in every way and there's nothing like making music with someone who understands the vision and you can just vibe with on a song you made, but in all honesty artists are not the only options producers have. Have you ever heard of anyone buying an acapella album and playing it over and over all the time? I Didn't think so because words are nothing without the music to move the listener to help paint the artist's picture. On the other hand though is it not true that instrumental albums sell all the time? Christmas music is huge! Also what about music for movies as I said earlier. I can go on all day about how producers can make it without artists jumping on there music, but can artists make it without producers? 🤔 Good question!
3. Producers set the vibe
Back to artists, I noticed at least in the world today in 2018 specifically in Hip Hop & Rap that the beat alone is everything. Without a dope beat what do you really have? How many times have you heard people rap about there money, chains, cars, girls, etc but its OK and you know why? THE BEAT WAS DOPE AS F*CK! In today's world it doesn't even matter what you say as long as the beat is dope and that alone can carry a song, now tell me why producers do not get more credit then? It should be Metro Boomin featuring Migos not the other way around!
4. Things are changing slowly!
There's also a bright side at least right now in 2018 the world is becoming more conscious of music producers and there role in the music creating process. The bigger names like Metro Boomin & Mike Will Made It for example just to name a few are changing the game for producers. We producers have to starting thinking smarter and brand ourselves like these guys are because at the end of the day we do a lot and were a big part of this whole thing and we deserve a bigger piece of the pie and its not until we start respecting ourselves that will we get the respect that we deserve!
Sorry for my rant but I just had to get it out so maybe a Music Producer out there might need this that's thinking of quitting because he/she feels like there's no hope and things are unfair. Just remember my friend, nothing lasts forever!
